upgraded internals for 727?
what are the best upgrades for a 727? I don't mean shift kits, convertors, coolers(I highly think everyone should have one),or deep pans(another must have, especially on our shallow pan Mopars). I'm talking aluminum drums, aftermaket shafts, maybe low gear sets. What are the big boys(10's and lower 1/4) running to make one live at high hp levels.

I read years ago the aluminum drum can save your feet by preventing exploding of the stock drum and the shrapnel that follows.

A lot depends on how many bucks you want to invest. The aluminum drum is nice but it's $500. Careful usage and preventative maintenance can prevent drum related explosions.
The low gears sets will improve ET's on some cars and kill it on others, it's hard to predict.
A 10 second trans can live with most of the factory hard parts, I would invest in a steel front planetary. Roller output shaft supports and roller thrust bearings are nice but they're pricey and not really necessary.
In short, it's easy to tie up $3000 in the trans alone when a decent, reliable unit can be built for less than a grand.

That's kinda what I was thinking. I read an article where the aluminum drum netted 4 MPH on the big end by lowering rotating weight and at the same time prevented failures. I think I'll spend the 500 on it. A&A makes those correct?

Re: upgraded internals for 727?
can you guys recommend what i should ask for when i have my tf rebuilt??? right now it shifts pretty firm and seems to be okay but the car has 96000 miles on it so i'd like to freshen it up. i'm a tranny idiot, have no clue. the motor will probably never excede 400 hp, maybe some nitrous every once in a while :D , i'm trying to build a nice strong street driver. any recommendations???

thanks,
matt

Some Car Guy,
We run a transmission from A&A which has the alum drum plus other goodies that A&A offers.
We have over 300 runs on the trans without any problems.
